Internet magic!

Konica1254-1

What a magical place the internet seemed.

Once I signed up for e-mail, transformations began.

Charming ladies, were keen to date.
(Identifying as “hot local milfs.”)

These sounded a pleasant change
from those ice maidens
who blanked me
on lonely shopping trips.

Next, appeared financial offers
by the very rich.

People warned against responding.
Revealing cynical negativity.

“Your worldview must be sad, indeed,” I thought,
“Not trusting Nigerian royalty
with basic bank details.”

Sharp insight of strangers, also impressed.
Intuiting hidden desires.
For male enhancement products.
And female company.

How could they possibly know me, so well?
It felt a little spooky.

Though other messages made no sense.
As if tormented minds shared
deranged states.

Some spam undermined itself
using blatant brand names
in a web address.

But certain complimentary mail
one wished were genuine.

“You’ve done a formidable job on the blog!”
Said Google.com
“Our community’s grateful to you.”

Had tech giants noticed Me?
Then why did stats stay low?

A special comment lit new sparks
amid my loneliness:

“I’m extremely pleased, finding your great site!”
Wrote Ukraine high-class escort.

“I truly savoured every part of it.
And have you saved in favourite.”

Might this be my muse, at last?
Wistfully, I sighed.
Imagining melancholy beauty.
A passionate Slavic soul.

I yearned to hear her exotic accent.
Or speak my only Russian words.
(Perhaps provoke a smile?)

Alas!
Grown too old to meet her, now.

(Could I even afford to?)

Yet
a poor man still has dreams.

(Shameful
I confess.)

That internet magic
just
persists.

And keeps me

in

its spell.

(Should this piece have a British irony alert, at the top?
Can my sense of humour work without emojis?)

I took a blogging break, this month; for the first time in three years.
Had fun, discovering new sites, and interacting.

Meant to post last Sunday, but messed up.
A poem refused to go right.
Anxiety set in.
(“Maybe I can’t write poetry any more?”)

Then late night, brain-fog, and exhaustion, wore me down.
So another week was lost.

Art on the blog is mine: I hope you like it?

Do you ever enjoy spam?

Comments are always VERY welcome!πŸ™

Thank you
for reading.

    1. Thanks Gary!
      Glad you liked it.😊
The drawing dates from when I was 16. Not connected to the poem, yet I felt they went together OK.

And I notice you’ve been very productive, recently, Gary: lots of new posts!!πŸ‘

        1. Yes. Though It’s only midday here, Gary!
Weather has been exceptional lately: total blue skies (probably more like you normally get?).
I was thinking the image looked a bit like signs and nodes, in a network, somehow.

    1. Thank you, Tara!
So lovely to have you drop by.😊

I find some spam can look almost real, with logos/letterheads, from (eg:) the UN, World Bank, Fed-Ex, the FBI(!), Apple, etc.
After having all those, as a Brit, I’m kinda hoping for one from the Queen! LOL!

  2. This poem is as lovely as it’s funny. I enjoyed reading every bit it, most especially that part about Nigerian royalty β€” it cracked me up the most. Maybe it’s because I’m Nigerian? (I don’t know, but I like it.)

I don’t like getting spam comments, but I’m thankful for the few hilarious ones I’ve got. They’re always useful during times when I’m feeling low.

  3. From one Bristolian to another
I’ll get my mind out of the gutter
    That poem made I smile
And reading it was well worthwhile
So I’ll leave you with my thanks
And look forward to more of your pranks

    1. Thank you, Kate!
How nice to hear from you.😊
(I’ve been offline since Weds morning due to lightning storms: worry about my PC getting fried.)

To be honest, the male enhancement spam has stopped, recently.
Perhaps they reckon I’m past it, now?

Still, I had an e-mail from a lady called “hot Anita”, today. Who “wants to meet”.
But it was all in French. Bit disappointing, really.
      (Though I think I got the drift… LOL! πŸ˜„)

  4. I can certainly become quite enthralled with the magic of the internet, forgetting (neglecting) the “real” things in my life that actually bring joy to my life.

It often begins with a quick and simple question: “Okay Google, how do I boil an egg?” and from there, hours later, I find myself going from boiling eggs, to fancy egg recipes, to chickens, to farming, to farm-related pollution, to the Environmental Protection Agency, to Bald Eagles, to canoe rental outfitters along rivers where you can see Bald Eagles, to faraway adventures…. meanwhile I have completely forgotten that I was ever hungry for a simple egg.

Just one of many such examples!

    1. Lovely to hear from you, Lizzie!
      I know what you mean.
In my own case, You Tube videos can lead me astray for hours. 🀭
(There always seems to be “just one more” interesting video I’m tempted by, in the “suggested” menu…)

      1. Whaaat? Really? That’s weird, what would be the criteria to put such comments in the spam folder? XD

        1. I don’t understand it: I’m not very tech savvy, Maria!
(When I was young there were no computers, just TV and cassette tapes,LOL!)
And, actually, WordPress had just put your comment in the spam, AGAIN!😧
Even though I approved and liked your first one.
It does the same to my followers, randomly, after letting all their previous comments through.πŸ™ƒ

          1. It was more like a rhethoric question, haha! Sometimes things are buggy on the Internet, that’s just how it is *shrug*. Good thing you check your spam folder though πŸ˜‚. But don’t worry about it, I don’t take these things personally! πŸ˜‚

          2. Oh! How strange.
I just found THIS comment in the spam, as well!πŸ™
Maybe you SHOULD start taking it personally, now, Maria?
            (Is WordPress messing with you?)
I’ve never had three consecutive comments, from the same person, put in the spam.

That could well be actually 😼😼😼 Maybe WordPress doesn’t want you to talk to me πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

          4. Well they might have us on their list, Maria!😧
Because this is your 4th comment hid in spam: all time record!!🀑
(I’m getting NO notifications for them, so I’d be missing each one, if I didn’t keeping checking.)
Is someone trying to ruin our relationship? LOL!
            Spooky…πŸ‘»

I enjoyed discovering your blog and artwork.✨

(By the way: your comment link leads to a “The authors have deleted this site” page.
So people will not be able to find you from clicking on your site url.)

  5. Ha, yes I can identify. Waiting for that one good email is like searching for a diamond in the rough. It does come though. I deal with the spam with a swipe of my finger. It does not deserve one millisecond of my time. Patience is key. I have found joy in doing, not searching or waiting, just doing. I focus on the creative – thankful for every minute before me – always progressing and moving on. If that one email comes, I deal with it immediately and pack it away. It does not hold me in it’s clutches – moving on in my minutes, always acting on inspiration. Happiness for me is doing. The rest will eventually fall into place, somehow?!

      1. I had a blog going awhile back about coping with my son’s addiction to heroin and the crazy path I followed trying to rescue him. Writing and especially painting for the blog was almost therapeutic for me.
